Our Background
Azad Foundation Worldwide is the outcome of Azad Foundation Pakistan’s persistent efforts for the rehabilitation and reintegration of street-connected children in Pakistan.
Back in 2000, street children were among the most neglected segments of Pakistani society. Azad Foundation began its work by addressing their fundamental rights, laying the foundation for a comprehensive, long-term rehabilitation program. These efforts brought recognition to the issue of street-connected children and led to transformative changes in their lives through the establishment of protection and rehabilitation centers.
This significant journey enabled Azad Foundation to contribute meaningfully to policy reforms and legal frameworks for street children. It also led to the development of numerous publications, project management tools, service packages, and standard operating procedures at both national and international levels. Azad Foundation’s contribution to the UNHCR General Comment as a representative of Pakistan stands as another major milestone.
In 2015, encouraged by the Board of Directors and the Pakistani diaspora in the United States, Azad Foundation Pakistan expanded its mission globally. As a result, Azad Foundation Worldwide was established in the USA to protect the rights of street children not only in Pakistan but also across the globe. These rights include access to protection, education, healthcare, skills training, and shelter.
In Pakistan alone, millions of children fall victim to abuse, violence, and exploitation. Many are displaced and forced to live on the streets due to poverty, terrorism, and natural disasters. Through its initiatives, Azad Foundation Worldwide aims not only to ensure the safety and well-being of these children but also to serve as a global model where no child feels unsafe, forgotten, or at risk. The organization is committed to supporting the creation of child protection policies and legislation at the state level to ensure a safer future for all vulnerable children.
